Artem Zdunov and the Mordovia delegation held a series of business meetings in Uzbekistan
On 20 August, as part of the business programme, Artem Zdunov, Head of Mordovia, and the republic’s delegation held a number of working meetings with members of the country’s Government and the Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan.
During the meeting with Temurjon Komilov, Deputy Minister of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the parties discussed issues related to social nutrition in general education schools and kindergartens. The Uzbek side expressed interest in Mordovia’s experience in organising social nutrition in educational institutions. Mordovia has established a system for providing safe hot meals to schoolchildren. It involves engaging a major food‑service operator, sourcing high‑quality agricultural products from local producers, and training specialists at the republic’s network of vocational education institutions to work in food‑service complexes. The “Organics for Children” project is being implemented and has already covered more than 15,000 schoolchildren in Saransk.
The parties also discussed the implementation of a joint pilot project to train professional personnel with subsequent employment.
At the meeting with Andrey Lanchikov, Charge d’Affaires of Russia in Uzbekistan, the discussion focused on taking the trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation between Mordovia and Uzbekistan to a qualitatively new level. It was noted that Uzbekistan is a long‑standing and reliable partner of the republic, as evidenced by the recent dynamics. Exports from Mordovia are steadily growing — last year, they exceeded USD 13 million. In turn, Uzbekistan is an important supplier of zinc and knitwear to the region.
This year, the “Promomed” company opened a representative office in Tashkent and registered a legal entity in Uzbekistan. This is the first time a Russian biopharmaceutical holding has established a resident entity in the republic.
Mordovia and Uzbekistan also enjoy close cooperation in agriculture. In 2025 alone, agro‑industrial enterprises of the republic exported more than 957 tonnes of products to Uzbekistan. In demand are poultry meat from the Chamzinskaya Poultry Farm, animal feed from the Atyashevsky Meat Processing Plant, products from Romodanovosakhar, the Saransk Pasta Factory, and other processing enterprises.
The Head of Mordovia and Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, discussed Mordovia’s export potential and further development of cooperation.
Issues related to expanding trade, economic, and industrial cooperation between Mordovia and Uzbekistan were raised during the Mordovia delegation’s meeting with Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan. Mordovia’s enterprises presented their commercial proposals, including those related to ensuring patients’ access to modern treatment methods.
That day, the Mordovia delegation also visited one of Uzbekistan’s leading industrial sites — “TEXNOPARK”. It was established in 2019 on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Today, “TEXNOPARK” is an industrial complex that brings together about twenty production sectors and employs more than 5,000 people. During the meeting between Artem Zdunov, Head of the Republic, and Botir Babatulaev, Deputy General Director for General Affairs, the parties discussed supplies of components needed for production by Mordovia’s enterprises.
Summing up the results of the first day of the business mission, Artem Zdunov, Head of Mordovia, emphasised the mutually beneficial nature of the cooperation: “It is important for us that Mordovia and Uzbekistan earn together and provide jobs for people. Many residents of Uzbekistan receive education in our republic. As part of the business mission, we brought representatives of our innovative industries to Uzbekistan — wagon building, electrical engineering, and the pharmaceutical industry. We are seriously considering the possibility of localising production in Uzbekistan — this will help us work with the markets of Central Asia and address staffing challenges. We believe that there is considerable potential for growth and strategic cooperation.”
